POP: Sharon, thank you so much for taking time to chat with us and share your experiences during this special month. To start, what have been the adversities you faced when you began your career as a chef?
SHARON: As a black woman being outspoken as I was taught to be, became very challenging and scary.
POP: How did the adversities affect your career?
SHARON: It affected my career quite a bit because I was eager and willing to learn everything about the business. Moving forward was a process.
POP: What has been your motivation for staying in the industry?
SHARON: I have worked for Proof of Pudding for 14 years.
POP: What do you love about working at Proof?
SHARON: I’ve had the pleasure of working with a lot of Proof team members and they all lead by example. Ben Witte, Adam Noyes, Stephanie Hansard, Sheila Lockhart and Lawrence Morrow to name a few.
POP: How long have you been with POP?
SHARON: My motivation for continuing is I learned early in to truly love and respect what I do. I enjoy leading and motivating others.
POP: When eating out what is your favorite restaurant?
SHARON: I’m a seafood lover. I’ve ventured out to a lot of seafood restaurants. Some favorites are the Pirates Boil, Kings Krab and the Juicy Crab.
POP: What dish best represents you and your culture?
SHARON: I don’t know how many people have had this meal, but my mom was an excellent cook. Salmon Croquettes with grits and scrambled eggs with cheese – the best! I’ll have this anytime of day.
